SD-8 It was rather disappointing to see Al White pull a Hillary Clinton and turn into a carpetbagger just to stay in office. While he has been by far and away the most moderate GOP voice in the House over the past few years, as a resident of SD-8 I would rather see someone from the district representing us.

Additionally, while Mr. White has done a commendable job trying to improve our education system, he has not shown the leadership regarding regulating oil and gas development and mitigating the effect on our wildlife populations that I need to see in an elected official for this area. In fact he has been largely absent in taking any positions regarding natural resources (to my knowledge). While I believe that Mr. Brenner has some flaws, he has demonstrated a committment to conservation throughout his time on the Steamboat City Council and I have seen him often at pubic meetings related to public lands and wildlife.

The next 10 years are crucial for the future of NW Colorado. We will either force the oil and gas industry to develop resources in a responsible manner or we will become the largest industrial park in the U.S. I am hoping that whomever is elected will have the wisdom and leadership to lead us through this period.

I also look forward to the Democrats fielding a good candidated for the HD-57 Race. I have heard the whispers of whom it may be and I surely hope that they do run for office as we need competant representation at such dynamic crossroads for our future and I doubt that someone from Hot Sulpher Springs can truly understand what life is like in the gas patch.

59th District The 59th District shares Montezuma County with the 58th District. Mark Larson, R-Cortez, was the 59th representative prior to Roberts, and Cortez is the county seat of Montezuma.
