The Denver Post celebrity sighting column caught soon-to-be Colorado State University Chancellor Joe Blake already beginning some of the work he has been hired to do for the school.
According to the Post, 73-year-old Blake stepped out Tuesday night in Denver for cocktails and dinner with local movers and shakers — exactly the kind of people the board at CSU is depending on Blake to summon out of the depths of his Rolodex and tap to help solve the ongoing funding crisis at the land-grant university.
At Strings on Tuesday night, incoming Colorado State University chancellor Joe Blake and cable giant Trygve Myhren at one table; University of Colorado president Bruce Benson and Marcy Benson with Phil Anschutz’s mouthpiece Jim Monaghan and Lisa Gilford at another.
Last month Blake was selected sole finalist for the chancellorship during a closed-door meeting of the CSU board, a likely violation of state open-meetings laws. Blake was vice chairman of the board and worked for years with some of its members. During that meeting, one board member referenced Blake’s local connections as a great asset to the school, describing him as “The Pope” among Denver business and political notables.
