I wouldn't say… …..that an economic evaluation of the illegal immigration situation should be the only determining factor. There are other equally important considerations. For instance, the concept of law and order itself is an important factor, as is the nation's integrity, the security of the borders…..there is a pretty long list.

"a professor of ethnic studies" is the wrong person... to make the argument.

Of course, someone with that title is biased in one way or another.

The correct person to make the argument is "professor of economics".

Is legal immigration good or bad from an economic perspective?

Is illegal immigration good or bad from an economic perspective?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I would suggest that those who are “debasing the tone”…. …..of the immigration debate are those who falsely accuse the other side of being racists and xenophobes, and who claim that persons who break the criminal law in coming to this country are not criminals.

Who you calling an alien? There's anger on both sides. I agree that whoever put together the flyer for his morning talk, which I did not attend, should have reconsidered their wording. But it reveals an understandable amount of animosity on the part of many Latinos, who are angry about the debased tone of the immigration debate.

Truth is Sorely Needed–I encourage the efforts of Arturo Aldama We were ALL immigrants! Now, we need them as much as they need us. It is time for our outdated immigration laws to become enforceable and allow these folks to become law abiding workers if not citizens.

Atzlan Isn't this guy one of the big supporters of the Atzlan movement? You know, those Hispanics who claim that pretty much all of the Southwest was stolen from Spain/Mexico and should be subject to a “reconquist” (re-conquering)? I believe he appeared in a panel discussion of that just yesterday up at the university.

Don't you just love how the pro-illegal immigration advocates try so hard to blur the very clear line between legal immigration and illegal immigration? And then they accuse others of being racist because they want to enforce the law. Talk about "hate-mongering," that's a good example of it.
