The dean of Colorado’s Republican congressional delegation flexed his political muscle today with a strongly worded letter to President Barack Obama urging him to reject his own HHS secretary nominee Kathleen Sebelius.
Marshalling 28 signatories from the 110-member conservative Republican Study Committee, U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn of Colorado Springs was also joined by three other GOP colleagues in taking the president to task in epistle form because of the Kansas governor’s support for abortion rights.
Lamborn minced no words as he picked up the mantle for angry antiabortion activists fighting the Sebelius nomination tooth and nail:
Yet, curiously, fellow Colorado Republican and RSC member Rep. Mike Coffman did not sign the letter.
However, as the nation wrestles with a growing global swine flu threat and health care reform looms before Congress, Senate Republican stalling on the confirmation vote and Lamborn’s leadership was for naught.
Sebelius was confirmed this afternoon on a bi-partisan 65-31 vote.
