The case of Frank Rodiguez does make a point for doing away with the death penalty in that he was on death row for 16 years until he died (not from being executed.) It is costly to the taxpayers to go through appeal after appeal. I think jurors intend a swift execution for the safety of society because as long as the prisoner is alive he could get a commuted sentence or escape.
The sad fact is that Frank Rodriguez got almost 18 more years to breathe the air on this earth after Lorraine Martelli drew her last breath after being repeatedly raped, stabbed and tortured for hours.

ICorrection: in my last sentence I meant to say the death penalty may not have been a deterrent to others if Frank Rodriguez had been executed ( he is now deceased) but it would have damn sure been a deterrent to Frank Rodriguez.

I was always against the death penalty. I didn't think it was a deterrent to others, they could have the wrong guy, cruel and unusual etc.
UNTIL the Lorraine Martelli case. She was murdered by Frank Rodriguez November 14, 1984. If anybody ever deserved to die it would be him for his heinous, show no mercy crime against an older woman he kidnapped off a Denver street. He had committed a similar crime before, but did not murder the victim.
The death penalty may not be a deterrent to others if Frank Rodriguez is executed but it will damn sure be a deterrent to Frank Rodriguez.
