Stalled Bills The Employee Free Choice Act did receive majority support, with 51 votes. We expected that it would be held up. Many people think the Senate rules should be changed to prevent this type of thing. What it means that without a super majority, any controversal bill can be stalled. This correlates to the reasons we need this bill to pass. We need to

stand for democracy first, but power and wealth too often define who we are as a nation. Senator Salazar told us he would support it and he stood by his word. The immigration bill is another hot debate. Maybe the EFCA should be tied in with the immigration bill. I do not mind more people here as long as they cannot be exploited for cheap labor. Cheap labor is why this issue has been ignored so long.

Your right There are a lot of problems with this legislation, especially with regard to citizenship, guest worker labor, and family matters. It's a bipartisan bill. Naturally no one is going to be completely happy with it.

But hopefully this measure will give the estimated 12 million undocumented humans in this country a foot in the door and a greater chance at becoming citizens, if they choose.

Immigration 'Reform'? Ha! The legislation revived by the U.S. Senate today is NOT 'immigration reform'.

It is opposed by the AFL-CIO ... because, in truth, it would be a gift of cheap labor to the mega-transnational corporations.

It would also be a gift to the elitist oligarchs running Mexico ... all their poverty and unemployment problems shifted to the United States.

How embarressing for working and middle class Coloradoans that Ken Salazar is one of the chief archetects of this sell-out to Bush and the national Chamber of Commerce.

Union Bills House Bill 1072 and the Employee Free choice Act actually have nothing in common–except both have to do with unions. The Employee Free Choice Act would make it fairer for workers to initially form a union and get a first contract. H.B. 1072 would have made it easier for unions–once they have already formed a union–negotiate a union shop. Bill Ritter actually endorsed the Employee Free Choice Act.
