Well, I much respect your opinion, Ernest.
Paul Krugman was certainly right in 2005 re Greenspan and the mortgage market. It's too bad nobody listened to him.
I think people are so disgusted with teh billions given out to AIG, the banks, etc. just before Bush left office (re the squandering and corruption by the very people who got us into this housing mess), that it has left people skeptical. And with a desire to scrutinize the rest of the funding. Fanny Mae and Wells Faro are sponsoring the big bank pow-wow party in Vegas. As Sen. McCaskill, Mo. implied, why didn't they go to Omaha or K.C. (?) I guess it's party time..on our taxes. And Buick had the money to sponsor the golf tournament in San Diego last week...

I've read many reports about people who did not miss house payments who got burned on adjustable rates, etc. and were refused help on loans, are those who missed payments (many of whom were likely not qualified in the first place) the only people who get help? And of course millions got burned in devalued real estate, not to mention stock and retirement losses the past few years.I'm not at all sure this mess can be fixed now with any amount of money. As Kerry said in '04, "the country can't afford four more years of Bush".

WHEN is somebody going to be held accountable? Can they just loot and destroy a whole country in 8 years while the people in charge were fiddling while Rome burned? Is there no retribution or prison sentence for those responsible?

Obama should repeatedly put out the news that his predecessors got us into this mess.
But I still think the movie people should get their money by cutting a few million off the stars' and directors' salaries!!

Some economists, notably Paul Krugman, argue that half a loaf is considerably WORSE than none, Wildflower. If the stimulus bill's spending is insufficient to stimulate the economy out of a downward spiral, we've added massive debt without fixing the problem and forestalled future efforts to take another crack at it using the same methods -- because Republicans could, reasonably, say we spent all this money and it didn't work, so spending more money isn't the answer.

Those who back as much spending as possible in the stimulus bill argue that only federal spending can make up an anticipated $2 trillion shortfall in consumer and business spending over the next two years. The argument is to spread the spending throughout the economy -- providing money to hire construction workers and, yes, workers involved with movie production and dozens of other areas labeled "pork" by opponents.

Without compromise there will be nothing...nada. Half a loaf is better than none,
We vote every two years for more school funding, it's bleeding us dry, with little if any result. First of all they have to throw out Bush's no child left behind and quit teaching to rote tests and teach to educate.
What good is anything if Mom and Dad don't have employment to put food on the table and a roof over the children's head? We have a dire economy. That has to be addressed.
Yes, there is pork in this, last week I read about something for the movie industry. And what good is the energy rehab if the company admits it can't handle all that work at once...etc, etc, etc.

Yes "pork" such as school construction, teacher funding, and higher education. Who needs education? or jobs building schools? or money to help families send their kids to college?

Seriously, you are proud of our Senators? I am disgusted. The farther they stay away from Nelson, the better.

Wow, I'm proud of our Colorado Senators Bennett and Udall for taking an independent, conciliatory viewpoint.
Here in Colorado, Beef is what's for dinner, not pork.
