KUSA-TV just mentioned the furloughs in its 4:00 p.m. newscast and says the furloughs don't mean the station is going away. An onscreen graphic included the bullet point “Better than layoffs.”

It doesn't appear that the furloughs are affecting Gannett's broadcast outlets. At least, not yet.

Bu the whole thing stinks to high heaven whether it's Gannett, Tribune Cos or any other mega-journalism outfit foisting these strategies on its employees. Layoffs and furloughs won't solve the industry's primary problem -- the business model has to be completely overhauled.

Locally, Gannett also owns KUSA Channel 9 and KTVD Channel 20 in Denver.
