Look again at the Second Amendment "Bearing Arms" is active membership in the primary military organization of the nation. It is not packing your own personal heat under your coat as you prowl the streets looking for thugs to cut down. It is not crashing through the trees and undergrowth to shoot game with your very own high technology sniping firearm so you can crow about "putting meat on the table."

Gays, lesbians and so forth have a constitutional right to serve in the military, and that right is secured by the Second Amendment.

The stupid and specious claims about gender orientation as related to "good order and discipline" can be used just as well about political orientation, religious orientation, diet orientation, eye color, body odor, or the colonel's bad hair day. And that is the real reason for the Second Amendment.

The right to help defend the country belongs to the whole body of citizens. The best defense against oppression by a professional military is to insure that the national military, from the rank and file to the top commanders, is representative of E Pluribus Unum.

Those who don't like it can take immediate retirement and officially sit on their butts doing nothing.

From new new Pearl Harbor of 9/11, to the upcoming repeal of Roe V. Wade, to the non-ending, ever present War on Terror, we are constantly confronted with fear. Most people who are afraid are so glad when a savior, any savior, comes along with promises of relief from that fear.
