Get a grip ginnyking. Oil shale is not your "savior". Just like "clean coal", it will cost far more to produce than it is worth. Nevermind the environmental damage it will cause (which is substantial), the overall dollar costs of taking it out of the ground and turning it into useful products is beyond prohibitive. It's 'pie in the sky' for the diehard petro conservatives. We are far better off investing in new forms of energy that don't tear up the earth and fill the sky with poison.

Do you really, really believe that the way we have always done things is the way we have to do them? When can put in vigorous recycling programs so we don't have to mine. What do we do when the mines run out of metal? We can turn to alternative energy so we don't have to tear up the land to extract fossil fuel. If we don't, what do we do when we run out of fossil fuel?
We basically have two choices
1. Drill and mine until we have exhausted all resources and then watch our civilization crash.
2. Turn to a renewable economy now, keep our land in good shape and give our citizens new jobs.

How do groups such as Earthjustice, Center for Biological Diversity, Colorado Environmental Coalition and others propose to continue to operate at the level in which you operate and continue to minimize oil and gas activities? You guys are also fighting against the mining industry, aren't you? There must be a balance between our need for energy, necessity for economic stability and protection of the environment. Will you environmental groups be the first to turn off your lights, never touch a computer again, give up the use of your cell phone, refuse to use refrigerators, ride horses or bicycles and never again fly on another airplane? Do you consume crops that are farmed on a mass production level? That requires the use of a tractor which in this day and age requires hydrocarbon energy to operate. I love the open space, I love to fish and actually catch something, I love blue skies and blue clear water, I appreciate the precious experience of watching wildlife in its natural habitat. I also appreciate being able to turn my lights on in the middle of the night if needed. I am grateful for the benefit of being able to run to ths store in the early ours of the morning when one of my children needs something that requires refrigeration. I appreciate being able to go the grocery store and purchase fresh produce, fresh meat and that was brought to me via truck transportion, requiring hydrocarbon fueling. We can all make special speeches about protection of the environment but when is any one of you going to take the first step in doing without something that the industry you so vehemently fight against, provides? Let us see you make sacrifices for a change. Or, better yet, for those jobs that you are talking about reducing or eliminating, you produce the lost income and support those family that are going to suffer the hardship from your inbalanced and "vacuum-made" decisions. Let us see you take the first step and do without for a change instead of whining and complaining about something of which your knowledge is less than facutal and based primarily on misplaced emotion.
