We had a permit to march in the parade. So did paramilitary and pro-war groups.

The ones who tried to incite further violence against us, sir, committed a crime. We committed no breach of the peace, we did not call for any acts of violence.

Your friend from Iraq, and yourself, have never fought for American's freedom. You did not even fight for Iraqi freedom. You were pawns in an unGodly (literally) corporate sponsored war. There has been no war for American freedom since 1814.

To suggest, sir, that you or your Army or Marines gave us our freedoms is a blatant propaganda LIE. Americans like myself TOOK our freedoms at gunpoint from first the British and then the American governments.

The reason there is freedom in America today is because there are people willing to stand up to the Fascist police state the Army seems to want to put on us.

I have a video recording of your so-called “police brutality” and I believe that a) it wasn't very brutal, and b) it was necessary. 99.9% of the spectators came to watch the floats, bands, fire trucks, etc., not a protest. In my video, someone in the crowd is yelling, “Thank you, Colorado Springs Police!”, while the crowd cheers. That sums it up for me.

Second, I believe you have a right to your opinion, whether I agree with it or not. I believe that my good friend who was killed in Iraq in July '03 would have supported your right to your opinion. That's one of the reasons he was willing to put his life on the line.

I am a Christian, and apparently that means I believe in fairy tales and have a “teeny-tiny little mind”. Apparently the only requirement for being open-minded is that you must be closed minded toward those with beliefs that contradict yours! That's fine. Just don't expect me to respect your views if you can't respect mine.

If you don't like the politics or religious beliefs of the people of this city, you have options! You can get involved in politics (vote, gather petition signatures, run for office). If your views are accepted by a majority, then things will change in your favor. If not, well, then maybe most of the people in this city don't agree with you. Does that make us fascists? NO. It makes us Americans.

By the way, “my father's America” believed in supporting our military, our leadership and our right to religious freedom, and my father was a proud Marine who fought to ensure that our country remained that way. My grandfather was at Omaha Beach on D-day (fighting AGAINST the Nazis, by the way) and my great-uncle was in the Battle of the Bulge. My father's America was a proud, God-fearing place, and I'd be GLAD to take it back “by any means necessary” from closed-minded hate-mongerers like you.
